February’s Snow moon in Leo

I set out to capture the February full moon rise and set from Independence, California.  I used my Nikon D850 and AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens to create all these images— This lens has  been a dream come true for my moon series!

Snow Moon in Leo Setting over the Sierra Nevada

The rise above the Inyo Mountains was a little darker than I anticipated. I figured I would get a better shot in the morning. I woke up just before my alarm, looked outside and saw the moon about to fall behind the Sierra Nevada. I ran barefoot across the dirt to catch this set before it was gone. The light was magical—the perfect balance of warm and cool tones.
